On a luxury trip, the toiletry bag is the one piece of luggage you unpack every day. Five-star bathrooms have counter space, but villas, ryokans, safari tents and boat cabins often don't, and a bag that hangs keeps everything off a wet sink. We've compared two premium zip kits from Peak Design and Bellroy and an ultralight waterproof case from Matador.

Best overall

Peak Design Wash Pouch

  • 2.5 L
  • 248 g (Regular); 1 L
  • 176 g (Small)

Best for: Travellers who want a structured kit that hangs or stands in any hotel bathroom

Check price

The Peak Design Wash Pouch is the most versatile of the three. Peak Design says it sits upright on a counter or hangs via a stowable aluminium hook, so it works in a spacious hotel bathroom and in a tiny cabin with nowhere to put anything down.

It comes in two sizes. The Regular holds 2.5 L and weighs 248 g, with external dimensions of 26 x 15 x 11.5 cm. The Small holds 1 L, weighs 176 g and measures 26 x 10 x 13 cm. A wide-opening #8 UltraZip gives you a clear view of everything inside. Inside there's a network of TPU-coated mesh pockets, a zipped pocket and a magnetically sealed toothbrush pocket, and Peak Design says all the pockets turn inside out for deep cleaning.

The shell is 100% recycled weatherproof 200D nylon (Peak Design's Versa Shell), and Peak Design says its Sage fabric is bluesign approved, per the product page. Thin high-density foam in the shell gives it structure and protects what's inside.

What we like

  • Hangs or stands, so it suits any bathroom
  • Two sizes, including a Small for short trips
  • Pockets turn inside out for cleaning

What to consider

  • Heavier than a soft or rolltop case
  • The structure takes up a fixed amount of space in your bag

Who it's for: luxury travellers who move between hotels, villas and lodges and want one kit that can stand on a counter or hang from a hook.

Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus: best for organisation

Best for organisation

Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus

  • Angled zip opens the kit wide
  • Water-resistant
  • wipe-clean lining

Best for: Longer stays and travellers with bigger bottles and grooming kit

Check price

The Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus is the larger version of Bellroy's toiletry kit, designed, Bellroy says, for longer trips and bigger products. It's the pick if you travel with full-size bottles, a beard trimmer or a skincare routine that doesn't fit in a small pouch.

The main design detail is an angled zip that opens the kit wide, so you can see everything without rummaging. A sturdy pocket keeps bottles stacked together, stretchy mesh pockets hold small items, and a zip pocket keeps loose bits out of view. Like the Peak Design pouch, it has a dedicated toothbrush spot: a magnetic-closure shelf that keeps the brush separate. The lining is water-resistant and wipe-clean, and soft grab loops make it easy to lift out of a deep bag with one finger.

One thoughtful extra: the internal label doubles as an Apple AirTag slip pocket, handy if you check a bag and want to track your kit. Bellroy says its fabrics come from recycled sources and its leathers come from Leather Working Group gold-rated tanneries; check the composition for your colour on the product page.

What we like

  • Generous space for longer trips
  • Angled zip and bottle pocket keep things tidy
  • AirTag slip pocket

What to consider

  • No hanging hook is listed, so it needs counter space
  • Bellroy doesn't list the weight on the product page

Who it's for: travellers on longer luxury stays who carry more products and want them organised.

Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case: ultralight and waterproof

Ultralight and waterproof

Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case

  • 2 L capacity
  • 34 g
  • IPX7 waterproof with rolltop closure

Best for: Beach, boat and spa days where leaks or splashes are likely

Check price

The Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case takes a different approach. Instead of a structured zip bag, it's a fully welded rolltop case that Matador rates IPX7 and says is leakproof and waterproof when rolled at least three times and buckled. It weighs just 34 g, holds 2 L and measures 20 x 15 x 9 cm.

That makes it ideal for the wetter side of luxury travel: a beach club, a yacht day, a spa or an outdoor rain shower. Leaking shampoo stays inside, and splashes stay outside. Matador's Dry-Through technology lets moisture vapour escape while keeping liquid water sealed in or out, so a damp toothbrush or razor can dry inside the case. There's a hang loop, and when empty it packs flat. Matador says the current V2 uses thicker material and is slightly wider to fit longer items such as electric toothbrushes.

What we like

  • Only 34 g
  • Waterproof and leakproof
  • Packs flat when not in use

What to consider

  • Little internal organisation
  • Feels more technical than luxurious

Who it's for: travellers who want a second, waterproof kit for beach, boat and spa days, or a featherweight main kit.

How to choose a toiletry bag

Diagram titled “Three ways to unpack in a hotel bathroom”, with three tiles. Peak Design Wash Pouch, highlighted: hangs from a stowable aluminium hook or stands on the counter; 2.5 L and 248 g (Regular), 1 L and 176 g (Small). Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus: stands on the counter, an angled zip opens it wide, no hook listed, water-resistant wipe-clean lining. Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case: rolltop with a hang loop, 2 L, 34 g, IPX7 and leakproof when rolled at least three times and buckled. A note says the FlatPak’s Dry-Through fabric lets moisture vapour escape while keeping liquid water in or out, so a damp toothbrush can dry inside, and that Bellroy doesn’t list a weight.
  • Hanging or standing. If you often stay in villas, cabins or on boats, a hook (Peak Design) or hang loop (Matador) keeps your kit off a wet counter.
  • Capacity. A 1 L kit suits a short trip with travel-size bottles. For full-size products or a longer stay, go for 2–2.5 L or the Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus.
  • Water protection. Water-resistant linings make spills easy to wipe up. For true leak protection, a waterproof rolltop like the FlatPak is the safer choice.
  • Toothbrush storage. A separate, closable toothbrush pocket keeps it away from everything else.
  • Weight. A structured bag adds a couple of hundred grams. If you're tight on weight, the 34 g FlatPak is the lightest of the bags here that list a weight.

Our verdict

For most luxury travellers, the Peak Design Wash Pouch is our top pick: it hangs or stands, comes in two sizes and has a toothbrush pocket that seals with magnets. If you travel with more products and value organisation, the Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus gives you more space and a wide angled opening. For beach, boat and spa days, add the 34 g Matador FlatPak, which Matador rates IPX7 and says is leakproof when rolled and buckled.
