Long trips come with a pile of small subscriptions: a data plan, a second number for bank codes, maybe a telehealth app, and a flight-compensation service you only remember after the delay. Travel eSIM brand Holafly wants to roll several of those into one monthly plan. On 13 October 2026, it announced the launch of Ultra, a subscription that combines unlimited mobile data with health, wellbeing and travel-disruption support. TechRadar covered the launch on 15 October, and the full feature list is on Holafly's official Ultra plan page.

What Ultra adds over Holafly's other plans

Holafly's subscription line now has three steps. According to its plans page, Light covers the essentials with a 25GB data allowance in 160+ destinations. Unlimited removes the data cap and adds hotspot and a local number for inbound SMS. Ultra keeps everything in Unlimited and adds the connection extras and support services, which Holafly counts as 10 benefits in one plan.
Holafly says every eSIM includes "Always On", a free 1 GB of data a month in 150+ countries, as long as you keep the eSIM installed.
The health and wellbeing side
This is the part that makes Ultra unusual for an eSIM. Through the Holafly app, subscribers can chat with a doctor 24/7, book mental wellbeing sessions, get nutrition and personal training support, and use an online vet service (Spanish only).
Holafly's FAQ adds a few useful limits:
- Prescriptions depend on location. You can consult a doctor from anywhere, but Holafly says electronic prescriptions and official medical reports are only available in certain countries, which it lists on the plan page. The doctor confirms during the consultation what's possible.
- Medical data. Holafly says it doesn't store your medical information. Consultations are managed by its healthcare partner, Open Medical.
Holafly frames the launch around research it carried out: 47.5% of the frequent and long-stay travellers it surveyed said they had delayed or avoided medical care abroad, despite feeling they needed it.
Flight and luggage claims, via AirHelp
Ultra's travel-disruption help is run with AirHelp, the flight-compensation company. Per Holafly's FAQ:
- Flights covered: all flights taken while your Ultra subscription is active. Flights before the plan starts or after it ends aren't eligible.
- What it handles: claims for delays, cancellations, denied boarding or overbooking, plus lost, delayed or damaged checked luggage. AirHelp handles communication and paperwork with the airline.
- Who decides: Holafly notes that final approval and payouts are determined by the airline and depend on regulations and claim eligibility.
- Luggage rules: bags must be checked in under your name. For missing or delayed luggage, report it at the airport desk and get a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the airport. Holafly lists deadlines of 7 days for damaged luggage and 21 days for delayed luggage to submit receipts or proof of expenses.
You can start a claim in the Holafly app (Purchases, then your Ultra Plan, then AirHelp) or by following AirHelp's emailed instructions.
Why it matters for backpackers and long-stay travellers
- One plan for multi-country routes. If your trip crosses several regions, a single global plan avoids buying a new eSIM at every border.
- Hotspot for the whole setup. Unlimited hotspot means a laptop or tablet can ride on your phone's connection. If you work from rentals or hostels, you can also feed that connection into a travel router. See our best travel routers for Airbnb guide.
- Bank codes on the road. A local number that receives texts, including two-factor codes, helps when you've removed your home SIM.
- Less admin after a bad flight. Claim help that's already set up is easier than finding a service after a delay.
Before you sign up, check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, as TechRadar points out, and check Holafly's coverage list for every country on your route.
Ultra vs a pay-as-you-go eSIM
A monthly subscription makes most sense if you're travelling for weeks or months. For a short trip to one country or region, a single-destination or regional eSIM is often simpler. Our best travel eSIM guide compares Airalo, Holafly and Nomad side by side, including fixed-data and unlimited options.
Ultra also isn't insurance. Doctor chat and claim help with an airline aren't the same as cover for hospital bills, medical evacuation, theft or trip cancellation. Long-term travellers should still have a dedicated policy. We compare options in our best travel insurance for digital nomads guide.
Our verdict
Holafly Ultra bundles unlimited global data, hotspot and a local SMS number in one subscription, plus 24/7 doctor chat, wellbeing support and AirHelp-run flight and luggage claims. For digital nomads and backpackers on long, multi-country trips, cutting down on separate apps and subscriptions could be worth it. Short-trip travellers will usually do better with a single-destination eSIM. And whichever plan you pick, pair it with real travel insurance, because Ultra's assistance services don't replace a policy.
